Membership

VANSA offers an opportunity to be part of a network of visual arts professionals, businesses and organisations committed to the development of our industry. Anyone with a commitment to the development of the visual arts is welcome to become a member. Becoming a member is linking into a range of intentions, programmes and initiatives by VANSA but also indicating your support of the organisation and the work it does – with the space to contribute and influence the work it does. Becoming a member is a free, once-off process and can be done online or at the VANSA offices.

>>WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER>

Anyone who is involved or interested in the visual arts in South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world and is interested in the growth of a dynamic, open and fair industry. Once you sign up here for individual membership or here as an organisation/business/institution, you'll have the opportunity of being a VANSA Member for life.

>>WHAT DOES IT COST>

Following our 2014 AGM we decided that VANSA Membership should be available to everyone, irrespective of their financial status. We encourage you to sign up even if you cannot contribute a yearly amount.

However, VANSA fundraises for all the work it does and your support is crucial to the ongoing work of VANSA. You can therefore select between the various amounts available as a membership contribution, beginning at R75 for individuals and R300 for organisations/companies, dependent on what you can afford.

>>HAVE YOUR SAY>

Have a good idea you think needs to be taken up? Want to get involved with the work VANSA is doing? Think VANSA should be doing more? VANSA convenes an Annual General Meeting where we formally report back to members on what we have been doing and what we are planning, as well as electing new members to our regional committees. More informally, we also get feedback from members through workshops and events that we organise, and you are always welcome to email us at membership@vansa.co.za.

>>WHY BECOME A MEMBER>

Becoming a member links you into a network of artists, companies and organisations that are committed to the development of the visual arts. By becoming a member you contribute to a collective and represented sector that can better motivate and organise to strengthen that sector. This is done through:

  • An annual AGM where all members contribute to the vision and primary responsibilities of the organisation
  • A newsletter twice a month that provides local and international opportunities for funding, residencies, exhibitions etd
  • Ongoing representation, policy research and consultation with government for better processes, funding structures and transparency for artists
  • A wide range of development projects, support projects and research into creating a more robust visual arts sector.
