VANSA Book Launch and Book Drive : 2010 Reasons to Live in a Small Town
On the 5th of December, VANSA will once again be taking over the Parking Gallery for the last session of 2012. We will be launching our new book about the Two Thousand and Ten Reasons to Live in a Small Town project, in combination with a book donation drive for our growing resource centre. Curator and writer, Bettina Malcomess will be speaking about the project and the publication.
The 2010 Reasons project spanned 11 small towns across South Africa, resulted in 15 permanent public artworks, 26 temporary artworks and public performances, and involved more than 250 people in the development of projects. The book encapsulates much of the thinking around around the project - from reflections on the projects by participating artists, through to commentaries generated by 'critical friends' and key participants in the projects, alongside commissioned texts from prominent thinkers in the field.
This publication will be on sale on the evening for R200. Cash only or EFT, bring along proof of payment (see bank details below).
This edition of the Parking Gallery is not only the official launch of this publication, but also a book drive and the closing-off event for VANSA for the year. In keeping with the spirit of the launch - publishing and thinking within the visual arts - we are looking to expand a growing library that forms part of a resource centre we are developing at our premises in Johannesburg. Please bring along one or more art books, theory, periodicals, catalogues, monographs, books about professional practice, DVD's and "books as art" that you would like to donate. Bring a book and you will receive a 25% discount on the Two Thousand and Ten Reasons to Live in a Small Town publication.
