COP17: Tomorrow’s Joy
A large scale eco-banner, originally developed for Joburg Arts Alive 2010 by the public art company Such Initiative, the project started as a community art project during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in community centres in and around Johannesburg. The intention was to teach children about eco-consciousness through creative process and recycling. Made entirely out of bottle tops colected in part by the children the project grew in scale and scope and eventually grew to employed 20 weavers in completing the project. The project has now been temporarily installed at the O.R Tambo International Airport as part of the roll-out of visual arts project related to climate change for COP 17 and can be viewed until January 10 2012.
