Jean Katambayi Mukendi's Open Office residency concluded on Wednesday 12 November 2014. Jean held an open studio and a short presentation on his work at the VANSA space. Jean has most recently shown at the Dakar Biennial, also exhibiting at Digibap, Marseilles, Gallery of Contemporary Aeroplastics, Brussels, Picha, Lubumbashi, and PIXELHACHE, Finland. Jean has also been artist in residence at the Ecole Supérieure d'Art d'Aix-en-Provence, Ker Thiossane, Dakar, and Art Centre Neuchâtel, Switzerland, among others. Jean's next show will be at the Havana Biennale.

“It's the same thing but it is not the same thing.”

The term often incurs nuances in approaches to form and content. For the same energy, there is migration, mutation, transformation, a kind of regression that can converge from a three-dimensional shape to a one-dimensional form. This work simulates the appearance and reappearance of extinctions in a natural context to the extent that the notion of the cardinal points and can move to the point that we can access á an ideal map of thought and urban planning.

L’expression engage souvent des nuances dans les approches de forme et de fond. Pour la même énergie, on observe des migrations, des mutations, des métamorphoses, une sorte de dégénérescence qui peut converger une forme de trois dimensions en une forme d’une dimension.

Ce travail simule des l’apparition, des extinctions et des réapparitions dans un intérêt naturel à tel point que la notion des points cardinaux peut bouger et à tel point qu’on peut accéder á une cartographique idéale de pensée ou d’urbanisme.
