BEACON // Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum at VANSA
Join us for the opening of BEACON at VANSA on Wednesday 25 November from 6pm. Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum's installation BEACON forms part of the "Minga Exploring Utopia" project together with other Arts Collaboratory partners.
Opening: Wednesday 25 November 2015
Time: 6 - 8 pm
Place: VANSA, 1st floor King Kong Building, 6 Verwey Street, New Doornfontein
« Minga » means « working together for the common good », it’s a project that reflects the idea of togetherness through the exploration of utopia by 21 organisations from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Launched at the Sao Paulo Bienial in November 2014 with a manifesto, Minga will generate wide-ranging perspectives about utopia in 2015 and 2016.
As her contribution to the Minga project, Sunstrum will create an installation that is an imaginative elucidation of Hakim Bey’s fake travel pamphlet, "Visit Port Watson!" The installation will feature wall drawings, animations and sound compositions. Her intention is that these components will individually and collectively serve as triggers for viewers to imagine and to ‘visit’ Port Watson via private routes of imagining.
For more information on Sunstrum's process and research for the project and to find out about the other Minga Utopia projects visit: http://www.mingautopia.net/
The exhibition will run until 15 January 2016. Opening times: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. (VANSA will be closed from 23 December - 4 January)
