Save the date: Norms and Standards Consultation Meetings
You are invited to contribute to the development of a best practice guide for the visual arts.
VANSA has been tasked by the Department of Arts and Culture to develop a Norms and Standards Guideline for the Visual Arts. The mandate for a Norms and Standards Guideline comes from the Visual Arts Task Team, who were tasked with identifying key requirements to come out of the 2011 HSRC Report on the National Study of the Visual Arts in South Africa. Your input into the Norms and Standards for Visual Arts in South Africa is vital.
Norms and Standards are industry protocols, usually developed by an industry body, by which all stakeholders can or must operate. Legislated norms and standards (such as minimum wages) are norms and standards that must be followed. Guidelines are norms and standards that indicate best practice but are not legislated.
VANSA will be embarking on a consultation process to gain valuable insights and perspectives on the proposed Norms and Standards Guidelines from the sector at large. We will be hosting physical consultation sessions in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town as well providing platforms for comments and submissions via email and social media.
We invite you to join us at any of the following sessions, all meetings start at 9.30 for 10am and will be finished by 12pm:
- 7 April 2016 - VANSA, 1st floor King Kong Building, 6 Verwey Street, New Doornfontein, Johannesburg
- 8 April 2016 - Durban Art Gallery, 2nd Floor, City Hall, Anton Lembede Street, Durban
- 15 April 2016 – Association for the Visual Arts (AVA), 35 Church Street, Cape Town
This consultation will serve as a first introductory consultation about the planned framework of the guidelines and to solicit comments and contributions. Further consultation will be held once a draft is developed for direct input into the draft.
Please RSVP to attend the physical sessions by Friday 1 April 2016. Fill in the form below to RSVP:
