PhD (Art History) SCHOLARSHIP

SOUTH AFRICAN RESEARCH CHAIR IN SOUTH AFRICAN ART AND VISUAL CULTURE

The South African Research Chair in South African Art and Visual Culture, Professor Brenda Schmahmann, has available a scholarship for a candidate from a designated group to study a PhD in Art History under her supervision. The value of the scholarship is R 100 000 per annum for the three years in which the study is expected to be completed. The successful candidate will also be provided with space in which to work.

The topic of the PhD, which is by thesis, must be relevant to the chair’s focus on South African art and visual culture. Topics related to gender, public art and community art projects are particularly welcome.

Only South Africans from designated groups may apply. The criterion for the award will be academic capacity.
