Personal/Studio assistant/manager to Dineo Seshee Bopape

Job commitment: 75% - 4 days per week

Proposed remuneration: negotiable depending on experience


  • Remain in regular contact with both the artist as well as with relevant institutions, galleries or parties (local and international) to ensure smooth planning and running of concurrent local and international exhibitions and projects.
  • Draft and respond to emails: press enquiries, research enquiries, sale enquiries
  • Follow up on unresolved elements in day to day running of the artist’s operation
  • Set up meetings and appointments, take minutes of meetings and share them with relevant parties
  • Communicate regularly with the artist by phone, Skype and email
  • Tabulate tasks and information, and ensure this is shared with all relevant parties


  • Organise schedules: make sure that things run smoothly regarding travel, work time and off time
  • Manage shipping and security of artworks to and from exhibitions.
  • elp install and/or dismantle exhibitions.
  • Everyday assistance with food, travel arrangements: professional and social
  • Fetching, carrying, delivering
  • Attending social functions
  • Miscellaneous: organising cleaners, dropping dry cleaning, making tea, washing dishes
  • Practical help in creating artworks will vary depending on work


  • Researching project specifics: immaterial and material research
  • Research and locate specific materials and or information efficiently
  • Finding appropriate service providers for tasks assigned: best quality work, for the most reasonable cost


  • Organize archive: co-ordinate and manage storage of artworks
  • Manage the artist’s digital archive: organization/filing; re-sizing of images, cataloguing and creation of PDF documents
  • Preparing presentations


  • Monthly bookkeeping
  • Research and draft budgets, ensure that productions are keeping to budgets
  • Expense tallies following the closure of exhibitions and projects
  • Draft and follow up on invoices
  • Track outstanding payments to and from studio


  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Trustworthiness and care in managing sensitive information and material
  • Experience with/knowledge of the contemporary art and art scene is a big plus
  • Proficiency in Adobe Indesign and Photoshop
  • Efficient
  • Ability to work with people, some of whom could have difficult personalities
  • Initiative when trusted with sorting out complicated tasks/logistics/ situations and arrangements
  • Ability to listen, ability to take orders and follow them to the letter when working on artworks
  • Willingness to travel both locally and internationally; and flexibility with time
  • Valid passport
  • Quick-thinking
  • Driver’s license / own car preferable
  • Own computer preferable
  • Ability to work both closely and remotely
