Project Coordinator at the Institute of Creative Arts

The Institute for Creative Arts (ICA) at the University of Cape Town is pleased to invite applications for a full-time position at Project Cordinator level.

ICA is an interdisciplinary institute in the Humanities Faculty – formerly the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA) at UCT’s Hiddingh campus in Gardens. The ICA facilitates research projects in the creative and performing arts that disrupt boundaries, while underscoring creative education and practice across discipline and faculty. Interdisciplinarity, Live Art and Public Spheres are key themes of the Institute, and projects are imbued with innovation, collaboration and a dialogue with urbanism and community.

The position will be vacant from 1 September 2017 and the lnstitute would like to make an appointment as soon as possible to provide sufficient time for training. This is a contract position from 01 September 2017 to 31 December 2018.

Requirements:

  • Relevant university degree and post graduate qualification.
  • Five years relevant experience in a professional environment.
  • Experience in a University, or comparable Educational or Arts Institution.
  • Knowledge of the University’s Financial and Post-Graduate Student policies and procedures will be a recommendation.
  • Apple iMac literacy and proficiency Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Simple accounting; Data base management; Spreadsheets; E-mail; Internet; Website administration and social media; Basic DTP and photo editing.

Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent will be responsible for developing timelines for events and projects.
  • Staffing the project and ensuring fair allocation of technical and support staff workloads.
  • Facilitate production meetings with director, technical support, marketing and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with guest speakers, students, artists and other project participants.
  • Co-ordinate and run Fellowship and Scholarship Programmes. Manage the allocation of student bursaries in line with Director’s requirements and instructions.
  • Provide curatorial assistance where needed for events, exhibitions and programs.
  • Implement project spending in line with approved budget; costing of project materials, services and ad hoc support staff and submit all relevant financial documentation in line with UCT policies.
  • Provide strategic input, solicitation and administrative assistance in submission of funding proposals.
  • Assist Director and Post Graduate programme conveners with student and course administration, including enquiries, potential applicants and admissions procedures.
  • Coordinate Board and Advisory Panels.
  • Some basic graphic design.

  • Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

The annual cost of employment is R300 000.
