PARADOX OF PLENTY: OPEN STUDIO

Paradox of Plenty: Jeannette Unite, converted the Michaelis Upper Gallery into an open studio from the 2nd to the 21st of March. This studio has be open to the public, allowing a rare glimpse into Unite’s working methods and a chance for personal engagement with the artist. During her time in the space Unite will produce a series of composite, collaged drawings, which will then be on exhibition in the Upper Gallery from the 29th of March to April 7th 2011.

ASSEMBLAGE 24 HOURS IN THE CITY LAUNCH: WORKSHOPS AND PEER MENTORING

Assemblage will hold its launch event from 25 - 26 March 2011 to coincide with the 24 Hours in the City Arts Festival to be held at the Maboneng Precinct. Following the opening exhibition and party on Friday 25 March, will be a day of workshops and peer mentoring groups on Saturday 26 March. Workshops: PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP (26 MARCH) - PERFORMANCE ART WORKSHOP (26 MARCH) - LIFE DRAWING WORKSHOP (26 MARCH) - PEER MENTORING GROUP SESSION (26 MARCH).

Center for Historical Reenactments-Intern Call

The Center for Historical Reenactments (CHR) is looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and innovative individual for the role of Intern. The paid internship will involve a 2-day per week commitment for a six month period - from the beginning of April 2011 – September 2011. Outside of the 2-day week the intern should be willing to work extra time in preparation towards as well as during CHR special events. The candidate must be willing to also help out outside of the stipulated hours should the need arise. Deadline: Monday 21 March 2011.

The Chair in the Creative Arts of Africa would provide leadership for academics within and affiliated to the Centre and would co-ordinate research projects initiated in consultation with them. BIANCA BALDI COMES TO DURBAN:  DUT ART GALLERY

As part of VANSA’S 2010 reasons to live in a small town, Bianca Baldi joined by an esteemed panel including Themba Shibase and chaired by DUT Art Gallery Curator Nathi Gumede. Baldi will give a talk on a site specific project which she has been researching. The project is called Natal Patria.
