Opportunity Description

Absa is participating at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos January 2019. We will be using this opportunity to build brand awareness for the new brand as well as showcase our business on a global platform.

The WEF annual meeting attracts a highly influential, global audience, made up of 2,500 elites from across government, NGO, DFI, corporate and civil society.

Absa’s base for the duration of the Davos meetings will be held at a local coffee shop which will be reimagined as a multi-functional venue. The local pop up venue is a two story building situated in a prominent position on the Promenade in Davos.

The pre-existing building we are occupying is very much in a Swiss vernacular. It is important that we not only occupy the site, but create a presence for Absa and Africa in Davos. To do so, we would like to reimagine the exterior façade of our temporary home. We invite African artists to submit proposals for an interpretation for wrapping the building either physically or metaphorically using craft and technology that is unique to our continent and create talk-ability and pavement appeal. We are open to bringing the concept on the outside into the inner space of the building. Please include how you would recommend this.

  • No structural changes can be made to the building
  • The Installation should be designed in a way which can we assembled and dissembled within 2 days
  • This installation should incorporate the new Absa color palette and the materials should be weather-resistant for rain and snow.
  • The installation will be installed by a separate supplier. The artist would not be responsible for installing the artwork.

Functional art, textile, weaving, installation. A novel use of technology and craft is also critical.

Site Location

Davos, Switzerland

The art installation will be rigged on the exterior of the venue on the ground floor (we are open to proposals that stretch or challenge this)
