Opportunity Description

Afrika Burns Creative Projects (AfrikaBurn) was created in 2007 as a Non-Profit Organisation, with the intention that it would serve as a vehicle for the co-ordination of a South African Burning Man regional event. The organisation has grown and expanded to such an extent that we require the leadership of an Executive Director Development (EDD) to assist with strategic organisational development initiatives. We are looking for an experienced individual to fill and contribute in this role.

The EDD is responsible for the leadership and management of the organisation in line with the strategic direction set by the Members and the Board of Directors. The EDD holds oversight of Development and Outreach, Creative, Communications and HR Strategy. The Executive Directors of AfrikaBurn will drive the organisational philosophy. In line with AfrikaBurn ethos, this is a position of servant leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the AfrikaBurn Vision and Strategy
  • Measure organisational performance against strategic goals
  • Facilitate inter-portfolio alignment and coordination
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders and the AfrikaBurn community
  • Financial oversight and development of a long-term financial strategy for the organisation
  • Establish and manage governance systems in line with NGO best practice
  • Develop and operate the AfrikaBurn human resources and volunteer strategy
  • Input into team performance management systems
  • Conflict resolution
  • Establish strategic partnerships with other organisations and entities to achieve the broader vision and mission of AfrikaBurn
  • Oversight of the development and delivery of special projects
  • Organisational development including policy and strategy
  • Oversight of land use practice
  • Event planning, implementation and wrap-up

The successful candidate will have 10 years of proven experience of strategic management in business development preferably at a Director level. The EDD will report to the Chair of the Membership & the Chair of the Board of Directors. In turn, he/she will direct the Development Lead, Outreach Lead, Creative Lead, Communications Lead and HR functionary (-ies) in their duties.
