Anthi-Patra Ruga and Victory of the Word are calling on all emerging and mid-career artists to apply for the very first Bodyland incubator taking place in the idyllic Amathole Village of Hogsback from 24 October to 7 November 2020.
To be eligible applicants must be
- Socially engaged residents of the Eastern Cape
- Fluent speakers of isiXhosa and English
- Be available for the full duration of the residency
The residency will take on eight artists working in performance or visual arts, film, radio, fashion exhibition-making and curation. All travel, accommodation and food costs will be covered.
The selected participants will be immersed in a 14-day high-octane group incubator that begins with an overnight excursion and camp on the Amathole heritage routes that include Ntsikana’s Bell; Nongqawuse’s pond; the villages affected by the 19th century “betterment” schemes as well as the effects of the Ciskei Development Corporation. The group will return to the residency base at the Hunterstoun Centre in Hogsback and begin a creative programme under the mentorship of Eastern Cape artist Athi-Patra Ruga.
