An Emerging Artists Portrait Development Programme will run alongside the ‘Continuing Conversations’ exhibition – hosted at UJ Art Gallery in partnership with MTN – from 17 October to 21 November 2018. Curated by Annali Dempsey from UJ and Niel Nortjé from MTN, the works on display will primarily be drawn from the collections of these two organisations; and focus on portraiture. In addition, ten selected works by emerging artists will be incorporated in the ‘Continuing Conversations’ exhibition and catalogue, as well as these artists receiving a small cash grant towards the development of their artistic practice. Artists are invited to submit an artwork in response to, or in conversation with, modern and contemporary South African Portraiture. Photographs are not eligible for inclusion; but digital media, performance art (on dvd) and three-dimensional artworks are. Artists will be given specifications regarding space and exhibition possibilities on request.
