SALARY: R257 508 – R300 000 per annum (Level 7)


The NAC is looking for a Marketing and Communications Assistant to provide administrative support to the unit and the entire organisation. The candidate will be mostly responsible for the effective communication of the work and achievements of the NAC including that of the recipients of NAC funding, and the promotion of arts and culture in general

To be successful for this role, you should be an excellent communicator with strong attention to detail. If you also have administrative and vigorous social media marketing experience, we’d like to meet you

Eventually, your goal will be to help ensure clear communication of the NAC’s messages across all channels in support of its mandate


The individual will support the Marketing and Communications Manager in conjunction with the NAC’s Public Relations agency through the following tasks:

  • Coordinate the implementation of communications strategies of the NAC
  • Provide administrative support to programmes and internal teams
  • Coordinate the production of innovative creative communication collateral on an ongoing basis
  • Draft and edit a variety of content, such as presentations, marketing collateral, newsletters, press releases and briefing notes for internal and external communication purposes
  • Update databases and media lists
  • Facilitate effective internal communications
  • Co-ordinate media activities to promote the organisation, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally
  • Coordinate the monitoring of media and arts development across a wide range of media
  • Prepare press statements and articles on Arts funding and promotion for internal and external communications
  • Build on existing and develop new relationships with media, key decision-makers, member organisations and other key stakeholders


  • Proven experience as a Communications Assistant, Communication specialist or similar role
  • Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) and content management systems is a plus
  • Solid editing and researching skills
  • Excellent communication abilities (oral and written)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Organizational skills
  • BA in Marketing, Communications or a related field is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Arts sector
  • Experience in project management with a proven track record of delivering on objectives
  • Passion for the Arts
