VACANCY: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER

POSITION NUMBER: P001184

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The subject group History of Art at the NWU Potchefstroom campus seeks to appoint one new member of staff (Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer) to assume teaching and research responsibilities. Candidates with an academic background and research experience in the history of art and visual art and culture are invited to apply.

Minimum requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree for Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in History of Art Visual Art/ Visual Culture (other associated disciplines)
  • MA degree for Lecturer in History of Art Visual Art/ Visual Culture (other associated disciplines)
  • Three years’ teaching and supervising experience appropriate to rank. Study supervision for Masters and Ph.D. (for Associate Professor & Senior Lecturer)
  • Clear evidence of a research agenda/ proven publication record (appropriate to rank).

  • Sound understanding of the broad History of Arts and Visual Culture discipline

Job Specification

Core Responsibilities:

1. Teaching:

  • Teach introductory and advanced level courses to a diverse student body
  • Bring enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching; engage in a practical, hands-on program of teaching; and provide strong mentoring to students
  • Provide curricular leadership in the history of the art program
  • Engage in Scholarly and subject related case studies
  • Provide service to the Community
  • Advise students

2. Curriculum development:

  • Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field and to build and expand the History of Art subject group

 3. Scholarly work:

  • Publication record and clear evidence of agenda for continued research in the field of History of Art and Visual Studies
  • Contribution to the academic citizenship and development of the subject group
  • Development of the research niche ViNCO
  • Participation in research projects with colleagues

4. Study guidance:

  • Provide study guidance to graduate students on Honours, Masters and Ph.D. levels
  • Proven record of study guidance

5. Administration and other tasks

  • Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above
  • Study guide development and update
  • Student marks and assessment
  • Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as required
  • Participate in services related to the life of the School and community

TOTAL REMUNERATION PACKAGE: Market-related
