Open Call:
First Sundays Open Air Art Fair call for artwork submissions
Victoria Yards invites Gauteng based sculptors and interventionists to submit artworks to be considered for the pilot First Sundays Open Air Art Fair, to take on the 5th of February 2023.
Since its inception in 2018, Victoria Yards has established itself as a green, innovation and cultural hub in the inner city. As such, we would like to create a platform for artists to showcase and potentially sell their work at a one-day open air sculpture fair.
The site is a combination of light industrial buildings and green spaces that run throughout, providing ample opportunities for intervention of various sizes and contexts.
We call on artists to propose artworks that speak to the natural and built environment of the site. Temporary, ephemeral, and interactive sculptures are also encouraged.
Sculptures will be selected by a panel of tenants and affiliates from Victoria Yards. They will be chosen site responsively, based on feasibility. Chosen artists will be invited to Victoria Yards to view the available installation options, and to make a final location selection together with the organising committee.
At least 2 walkabouts will take place on the day, artists are encouraged to attend these walkabouts and speak to their work.
Artwork guidelines:
Please note that artworks will be installed outdoors in a public setting, therefore the artworks need to be robust, and weather and tamper proof.
Vehicle access is limited to 3 tonnes maximum.
Artists will be required to produce, install, and strike artworks at their own expense.
