The William Humphreys Art Gallery (WHAG) in Kimberley, would like to commission a muralist/ graffiti artist/ illustrator to produce a public mural that responds to the theme of Human Rights (21 March 2023) in a creative and innovative way.
The successful artist(s) will be notified by the 27 th of February 2023. Interested artists must be available to produce the mural in Kimberley 13 March to 18 March 2023.
Project Description:
If Walls Could Talk is a Community Arts and Cultural Development initiative of the WHAG that wishes to invest in national identity development through the promotion of creative interventions in public spaces in the Northern Cape. Experienced graffiti-artists/muralists/illustrators are invited to submit concept designs for a public mural according to the following specifications:
Project Budget: R25 000.00 (This is a cost to company budget and is inclusive of the completion of the artwork, all materials, and travel and accommodation if needed).
Location: Kimberley, Northern Cape Province
Size of Mural: 750 x 265 cm
This programme falls under the WHAG Community Art and Cultural Development (CACD) project portfolio. The unifying objectives of reconciliation, community development, national identity development as well as investment in social cohesion underscores the projects designed under this programme. These initiatives involve public and private sector partnerships to strategically invest in critical social outcomes needed in the Northern Cape province.
It, furthermore, provides an opportunity for skills transferal and the involvement of local artists in community art projects that situate their practice within reach of and for the benefit of the community at large.
