In the heart of The Midlands Meander, KZN uMsamo Artist Guild presents iLima: The Plateaus of memory contemporary art exhibition hosted at The Old Mushroom Farm. iLima as a practice’ is an act of service by people in the village who form a collective that helps each other work the land for farming. This act is compensated by reciprocity. The exhibition offers a space to reflect, remember and celebrate rural customs such as “it takes a village to raise a child” & “umuntu’ umuntu ngabantu” spirit which shaped our society and continues to play a role in the contemporary world. Artists are invited to give their perspective on how they view “iLima” and other communal customs reflected in their work.
