The META foundation & August House is putting out a call for applications for a year long studio exchange for the LGBTQIA+ community. The studio exchange will run 01 September 2024 – 31 August 2025 and will provide the successful artist with a studio space for 12 months as well as access to any activities or events that take place at August House. The application process will run until midnight 16 August 2024. Applications will be assessed by a body of visual arts industry professionals and ONLY the successful applicant will be contacted.
Award requirements – The artist must:
- Be a LGBTQIA+ artist
- Have only been practising for 5 years or less
- Be based in Johannesburg or able to travel to Johannesburg. Please be advised that no accommodation will be provided during the studio exchange period. Should the artist decide to travel, they need to be aware that no funding will be provided for travel, accommodation or living expenses.
- The artist will be asked to cover the nominal costs of water, electricity, refuse and utilities during their stay.
- The artist will be asked to make a donation of an artwork(s) to the value of R15 000.
The studio exchange does not provide funding for:
- Transport funding
- Living expenses
- Medical expenses or travel insurance
- Material costs
The studio exchange does provide:
- A studio within August House (located at 76 End Street, Doornfontein) for 12 months
- A parking space within August House
- Uncapped internet
- Support from the META foundation team
