1 May 2019

Opportunity Description

Commissioned by the City of Johannesburg Department of Transport and implemented by the Johannesburg Development Agency, the S-Bend Wall Mural is an opportunity to interrogate the ever-changing face of Johannesburg; while simultaneously celebrating its development, reimagining its future and reflecting on its past.

The 3000m2 wall surface running east-west along the corridor, cross cutting the suburbs of Yeoville, Observatory and Upper Houghton, provides a unique opportunity for the telling of Joburg’s multiple histories through social politics, landscape, architecture and mobility.

From the 13 April 2019 – 1 May 2019, the public is invited to contribute stories, ideas and personal anecdotes to what will eventually become one of the largest murals in the city.

Come make your mark at:
Spark Gallery/ Orchards Project
5A Pine Road, Orange Grove
11am – 4pm unti the 1st of May, thereafter by appointment

How to Apply

All are invited to visit the Spark Gallery and the Tipper Space at the Orchards Project in Orange Grove, to observe the process to date, and to contribute their own stories verbally, or by adding directly onto a model version of the wall installed at Spark Gallery.
