Artist Alliance is on the lookout for Cape Town’s freshest creative entrepreneurs. Find out why.
Are you a Cape Town-based visual artist between the ages of 18 and 30 with the drive to turn your creative passion into a business? Then keep reading…
Ten Cape Tonians will be chosen from fields such as Fine Art, Photography and Filmmaking, Fashion, Illustration and Design or adjacent disciplines to take part in a two month training programme brought to you by the V&A Waterfront’s Artist Alliance.
The aim of the incubation programme is to teach essential business skills such as how to grow a business, basic financial understanding, marketing and sales knowledge as well as how to successfully run your own digital and social media platforms.
Artist Alliance aims to support creative self-starters to get their careers off the ground with the right mix of practical advice and industry knowledge. The programme will not only teach you business skills but also give you access to mentorship opportunities from seven leading creative industry experts, Atang Tshikare, Celeste Arendse, Mrs + Mr Luke, Earl Abrahams, Nardstar* and Storm Janse van Rensburg. Says Faatimah Luke, “I believe that it is the responsibility of those who have experience and knowledge, to share their knowledge with those who seek it. Sharing my journey with young creatives allows them to learn from my path, triumphs and mistakes.”
Mentors were carefully selected and will play a supportive role by sharing their own experiences and industry-specific knowledge, alongside industry experts who will conduct the main curriculum sessions.
Ten candidates will be selected in early August and will begin the two-month-long incubation programme in September. Applicants will be judged on talent and proficiency, motivation and drive, demographic profile and innovation in craft and vision. Interested applicants have until the end of July to submit portfolios. To apply you need to be a working artist in the visual arts field and between the ages of 18 and 30, currently residing in Cape Town.
