We invite applications from emerging artists and aspiring curators for a unique opportunity to hold a solo exhibition under the Young/Unframed programme. In 2024, three artists will be selected to produce new work and work alongside a curator for their debut solo presentation.
Each artist will receive a studio from which to work, a modest stipend and curatorial support, as well as access to the Bag Factory gallery to present new and/or site-specific work. Each artist will be paired with an emerging curator, who will gain hands-on experience and mentorship from the Bag Factory team to bring the exhibition to fruition.
About Young/Unframed
Young/Unframed is aimed at creating opportunities for identifying and including young creatives who are less represented in South Africa’s creative industry, and we strongly encourage applications from women of colour, persons who identify as LGBTQI+, and persons living with physical and/or mental disabilities.
Eligibility for Young/Unframed recipients:
- Artists: Must be under 35 and should not have had a solo exhibition in Johannesburg.
- Curators: Must be under 35, with less than three years of experience in exhibitions, curatorial work, or gallery administration.
