VANSA is pleased to announce the appointment of its new director, Kabelo Malatsie, who we believe will bring new skills, energy and experience to the position. Kabelo starts at VANSA on 1 June 2018.

Kabelo worked as an associate in the curatorial team at Stevenson gallery in Cape Town and Johannesburg from 2011 until 2016, representing the gallery at art fairs and biennales and working closely with artists, collectors and curators. Her recent curatorial work includes Nicholas Hlobo’s iinkumbulo ngezasemandulo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art Indian Ocean Mauritius and Matšatši a…, a screening of video works selected from the Emile Stipp Collection in Johannesburg. Kabelo’s Master’s degree in Art History from the University of the Witwatersrand explores alternative funding and institutional models that are rooted in their viability within a South African context. She was a participant of Independent Curators International’s Curatorial Intensive in Accra in 2017 and the 9th Berlin Biennale Young Curators Workshop in 2016. Kabelo also holds an Honours degree in Curatorship from the University of Cape Town and an undergraduate degree in BCom Marketing Management from the University of Johannesburg.
