The Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) was initiated by leading figures in the visual arts sector from across South Africa in 2003.
VANSA operates as a support point and development agency for contemporary art practice in South Africa. We develop industry knowledge, resources, networks and projects that are concerned with realising new social, cultural and economic possibilities for contemporary art practice in the South African – and wider African – context. VANSA is a national network of artists and arts organisations with just over 8000 members.
VANSA works with arts organisations and individuals across the country with the aim to support independent practice outside of the main city centres.
VANSA intends to constantly question the work we do, its value, and the value of arts in society in general.
PEOPLE, PARTNERS & ORGANISATION
VANSA strives to operate as a transparent and effective organisation, guided by some of the best and brightest minds in the visual arts sector, with assistance from outside legal and financial expertise.
