VANSA works with arts organisations and individuals across the country with the aim to support independent practice outside of the main city centres, as well as with partners across the African continent.
Though this has consistently been part of VANSA’s agenda, the new approach to DECENTRALISATION is to support existing work in the region rather than develop our own programmes, working more closely with existing membership. This programme area is membership driven.
Several project areas serve as the framework in which partnerships take place with organisations across South Africa and beyond:
PAN!C is a pan-African platform of knowledge production, and sharing through open-office exchanges and the Boda Boda Lounge Festival. Boda Boda Lounge is a video art festival that takes place at 15 organisations across the African continent every two years in November.
Territories is a project exploring access and radical sharing of the arts, and its broader role in society. Territories is still in pilot phase in South Africa.
VANSA Internships Programme is a collective fundraising initiative to enable internships at South African arts organisations. The programme aims to develop arts organisers across South Africa and serve as a vital resource for visual arts organisations in all 9 provinces. The VANSA Internship Toolkit was developed out of this programme. The VANSA Internships Programme is supported by Cathsseta.
